Protect Your CD Purchases

Buying one CD at a time might not seem like much value, especially if one album only costs about 10 bucks or so. However, once your collection reaches fifty or a hundred CDs, you will realise that you have quite an expensive stack. As CDs are known to last for a long time if they are handled properly, you need to know how to protect your investment - especially if you have rare albums that will one day be much sought after.

You need to keep your CDs in the proper cases if you want to prevent them from getting damaged. Keeping them in the jewel cases in which they are originally packaged will help keep away dust. However, the CD can rotate within the disc of the jewel case, causing it to get scratched. Also, in jewel cases with low quality, they sometimes need to be bent before they can be removed.

An alternate to jewel cases would be zipped albums containing CD pockets. If you choose this then be sure to get one with its inside cushion being made of non-woven material to prevent a CD from getting scratched when you take it out. Do not buy one with plastic lining, as this can stick to the underside of the CD and render some parts unreadable.

Buying jewel cases and CD pockets will not cost you a lot of money. Still, these items can help you preserve your CDs for a long time. So, you can consider the money you spend on protective CD storage items to be worth the bucks you will be able to save by preventing CD damage.
